So for those Nigerians who are used to renewing their visas via drop box, where you send your Passport via mail and collect it via mail, and don’t have to do any interviews again after you’ve been given a US Visa, that has stopped under Donald Trump’s administration. Whether you’ve visited the US one million times before or not, under this new immigration policy, once your visa expires, you have to go do an interview at the embassy again. Read the report below…

In an executive order signed on (Jan. 27), US president Donald Trump instructed the State Department to immediately suspend the US’s Visa Interview Waiver Program.
It’s an interesting action by a president who has made trade a central tenet of his policy platform, since it could, in the short term, inconvenience many frequent visitors to the US (and even dissuade them from visiting) by forcing them to have a face-to-face interview with a US consular officer every time their visa expires rather than simply dropping off their passport at a consulate.
Suspending the program could wreak havoc on US consular operations around the world that handle frequent visits from travelers seeking short term visas. The Visa Interview Waiver Program allows travelers to renew travel authorizations without an in-person interview.
The action is not expected to have any effect on the widely popular Visa Waiver Program, familiar to many by its front-line system, ESTA. That program allows nationals of 38 countries—including much of Europe—to enter the US without securing a visa at a consulate first.
A State department spokesman could not immediately confirm the precise effects of suspending this program, but said that it would announce any changes affecting travelers to the US as soon as possible.

This is really funny…
Controversial Lusaka based pastor -Prophet Anointed Benard, who is known by his members as Commander 1 -was pictured praying on mobile phone in a bid to show the congregation how powerful God is. A United States appeal court has upheld a ruling mandating Buruji Kashamu to face a drug trafficking trial, according to reports.

The senator and alleged drug kingpin who inspired Netflix’s hit women’s prison show, Orange Is The New Black was elected into the Senate in 2015 despite being wanted in the US since 1998.
Kashamu, however argues that his dead brother is who they want instead. In April 2015, He asked a district court to prevent his “abduction abroad by U.S. authorities.” The court dismissed the complaint, and the U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the ruling Monday. It said U.S. agents’ attempt to arrest Kashamu in coordination with local authorities would not constitute “an attempted abduction”. The ruling means that Kashamu can be extradited from Nigeria to the US to answer to the charges.
Senator Kashamu was indicted in a heroin case alongside money launderer turned “Orange Is the New Black” writer Piper Kerman in 1998, the latter has since pleaded guilty to the charges alongside several other people.
A student of Darussalam Science and Islamic Academy (DAISA) has lost his life while trying to protect hundreds of Muslims worshipers from a bomber at Kaleri mosque, Maiduguri on January 25.

The boy, Yakubu Muhammad Fannami, was one of the members of a civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) who prevented the girl. Fannami lost his life immediately the bomb exploded while three other members of the JTF were rushed to a hospital.
Less than two weeks ago, another bomb exploded at the University of Maiduguri mosque, Borno state.

The management of Lagos State University LASU, recently issued a ban on indecent dressing on campus
Now it has come to clarify the ban, stating that female students may wear necklaces on campus but they must not be “very big”.
In a statement issued, the LASU management urged undergraduates to read the Students Code of Conduct Form of September 2016 to know what is categorised as “inappropriate dressing”.
The statement read in part;
“The attention of University Management has been drawn to misgivings on the part of students regarding the constituents of ‘Indecent Dressing’ and the implementation of the rules pertaining this,”
“Management wishes to state categorically that extant constituents of inappropriate dressing are as contained in the Students’ Code of Conduct Form which was considered and approved at the 232nd Statutory Meeting of Senate on Thursday, September 29, 2016 and is available on the registration portal.
“For the avoidance of doubt, there is no rule in Lagos State University forbidding female students from wearing earrings and necklaces. Equally, there is no rule forbidding female students from wearing natural or artificial hair below shoulder level.
“Item 11 is not in reference to necklaces as such, but to very big dropping necklaces; just as item 16 has nothing in common with item q. subsection xix of LASU’s Code of Conduct for Students in the Students’ Handbook, 2016 where ‘hair attachment beyond shoulder length’ is mentioned, and which has been invalidated by the amendment of September 29, 2016.
“What we have witnessed in recent days are products of misinterpretation on the part of a few officials and amplification of these minor misunderstandings by scaremongers.”

And their conversation was just hilarious! The ingenious way Sl Komedy (real name Olu Salako) created a rhyme using the names of Michele and others is really something.

The crisis rocking Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, may be over in a couple of days, as the Oyo State Government has confirmed the payment of N500 million into the coffers of the school, for payment of staff salaries.

The Oyo and Osun State governments paid N250 million each, it said.
Senior Assistant on Students and Youths to Governor Ajibola Ajimobi, Bolaji Afeez, said “We are hopeful of a next week resumption; we have reached out to ASUU leadership regarding their resolution of waiting for the report of the panel as we are hopeful that the new development will reopen LAUTECH by next week”.
Mr. Bolaji also restated the government’s commitment to LAUTECH, saying there were efforts to meet other conditions that will lead to LAUTECH reopening.
Reacting to this development, the ASUU chairman in the school, Olaniran Biodun, said “What we are asking is beyond salary, but how the varsity will be funded. But once the money has been paid then we can change our stance and reconsider for the sake of students, but that will also come with a letter on how we will fund the varsity”.
He added: “Personally, in my own view and not that of ASUU, with the money being paid, then the crisis will be over soon.
“What we clamoured for is commitment and if they have shown commitment then the varsity will be reopened soon, once the money is paid out”.
The Oyo state Government had earlier promised to pay two months’ salary arrears to LAUTECH lecturers to enable the reopening of the school.
The school was closed in June 2016 over disagreements on how to finance the varsity.
